Currently (also) reading: Thus Spoke Zarathustra (Friedrich Nietzsche)

I happened upon this book at my uncle & aunt's house in Ballenita (this was the house we used to go to almost every weekend when I was a kid).
The book appears to be told as a fictional story, I'm picturing it in my head as a cartoon, and I'd love to be able to make either a full cartoon of the book or a comic out of it. It would be weird and intense, like the book is. And though the meaning is difficult to grasp, since it's quite poetic, I find that I get a lot of it with the flow. Basically it talks about man being a bridge to becoming Superhuman, so man is not the ultimate goal, and those who believe they have found happiness either in spiritual or otherworldly pursuits are wrong. Man is quite imperfect and to be able to evolve into Superhumanity, they must follow the sense of the earth.

Lei esto en un local de venta de video juegos, mientras esperaba a mi hermano y mi primo (no soy aficionada a los video juegos). Me parecio muy interesante, como normalmente lo que ha dicho Einstein me parece.

No pretendamos que las cosas cambien si siempre hacemos lo mismo. La crisis es la mejor bendición que puede sucederle a personas y países porque la crisis trae progresos.

La creatividad nace de la angustia como el día nace de la noche. Es en la crisis que nace la inventiva, los descubrimientos y las grandes estrategias. Quien supera la crisis se supera a sí mismo sin quedar "superado".

Risk


I got Risk cuz I had a lot of fun playing it in Quito with Jaime & friends. Last night we played it with abu, my brother, and my cousin, though we played it wrong cuz I'm a noob at it and the book it comes with has a drawing that's messed up making us play the game the wrong way, but I think I figured it out now from the innerwebs...

Cero Latitud Film Festival Winner: "Lake Tahoe" (UIO)


I saw this movie with Vero and her friends in Quito. It was free cuz it was the winner of the Cero Latitud Festival. The movie was quite slow, but I didn't mind it, and the characters and events are really interesting and surprising in a non-dramatic way. It's on my list of ones to own now.

How Lila met Thurston

Hallway. Thurston coming along it. Lila walking out of the bathroom, looking and wiping shirt which has a wet spot around midrift area. Looks up, sees tall guy's figure with a guitar walking toward her. Thurston sees a girl walking toward him. As they walk toward each other their eyes meet. They walk away.

In a classroom. Lila notices Thurston sitting in the back. Thurston looks up after a while as Lila looks back, their eyes meet again.

Students wait outside classrom. Lila is sitting on the floor against the wall reading a book. She notices shoes next to her. She looks up and sees Thurston, who leans against the wall next to her with his guitar at his side.

Lila: I like your shoes (as she looks up).

Thurston looks down toward her and smiles.

They both look away.

Hallway. Lila is walking out of the bathroom as Thurston walks toward her. They look and appear to smile slightly at each other. As they are both walking away, Lila goes back toward him.

Lila (catching up to him): Hey!

Thurston (slight smile as he sees her then looks forward): Hi (deep voice)

Lila: Don't mean to stalk you or anything, but... what are you up to?

Thurston: Going out for a smoke.

Lila: Mind if I come along?

Thurston (with a wider smile, as he looks at her): I don't mind...

Lila smiles back. They both walk away together.

Lila: So are you a music major?

Thurston nods.

Thurston: You?

Lila: Not sure yet... maybe... I'm just taking requirement... and music and art classes...

Thurston nods.


They go outside. Thurston moves toward a bench. He sits. Lila sits on the top part of the bench. He takes out a cigarette. He shows her the open box to ask if she wants one.

Lila: No thanks. I don't smoke, I have asthma.

Thuston sits back as he smokes and keeps his eyes forward.

Lila looks at his guitar.

Lila: Mind if I play a bit?

Thurston: Go ahead.

Lila (as she starts taking the guitar out of the case): I gotta stop asking you if you mind this or that, I mean if you did, you'd tell me no?

Thurston smiles and nods.

Lila starts to play a song without singing. After a while she starts singing in a low voice.

Moments later she gets up.

Lila: Gotta go now. Wanna play?

Thurston accepts the guitar from her hand.

Lila smiles at him as she says "Bye!"

Thurston smiles back and nods. He watches her leave.

He starts playing guitar.

The Sunscreen Manifesto

Ladies and gentlemen of the class of '97:

Wear sunscreen.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth. Oh, never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they've faded. But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked. You are not as fat as you imagine.

Don't worry about the future. Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind, the kind that blindside you at 4 pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Sing.

Don't be reckless with other people's hearts. Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss.

Don't waste your time on jealousy. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch.

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life. The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives. Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium. Be kind to your knees. You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll have children, maybe you won't. Maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary. Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either. Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else's.

Enjoy your body. Use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it. It's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do not read beauty magazines. They will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents. You never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings. They're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography and lifestyle, because the older you get, the more you need the people who knew you when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths: Prices will rise. Politicians will philander. You, too, will get old. And when you do, you'll fantasize that when you were young, prices were reasonable, politicians were noble, and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair or by the time you're 40 it will look 85.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Book I wanna read: Letters to Vanessa

I think the reason these results changed (used to be INTJ) are that I've been in a different environment for a few months... Interestingly, I'm still IN which was the strongest values that I got previously as well... I meaning Introverted, and N meaning Intuitive...

New Resolution: No More Disliked Work

During these summer travels I have realized that I was quite unbalanced in my distribution of fun vs. work during the past school year. I have already read 4 books since I started my summer, while I did not read for fun last year. I let about 9 months go by just telling myself that I am supposed to do school work, which stands against most of the things I believe in. I tried doing work early on so that I would not have to do it at the last minute, however, since I disliked it so much due to its business-driven nature, I always took a really long time to complete it and ended up wasting much of my dragged days.
Therefore, my conclusion is that when I leave things I do not like to do for the last minute, as is the natural thing to do, I do it with a lot more drive, being that I must finish them things ASAP. This drive happens on its own and leads me to work to my best potential, and being that I am also a perfectionist, it also cuts away from my spending of energy on things I do not like. All of this leads me to spending most of my days on things I do enjoy, such as reading for fun, hanging out with friends, making up my own software, writing on my blog, etc. etc. etc. Thus, I am quite excited for the execution of this new resolution.
